I designed the professional development program at Kappa Sigma to give every brother the building blocks necessary to develop the leader that is naturally born in every Brother of Delta Sigma Pi - or "Deltasig". I truly believe there are leadership abilities inside of all of us. It is the excitement that we feel when we take charge in a group and the group is successful. It is the moments that we sacrifice and forego our own gains to help other Brothers achieve their goals. It’s the moments when we challenge ourselves to think outside of the box and create something that has never been attempted.
I remember when I joined DSP, how afraid I was. Entering into a new environment can be very intimidating and Delta Sigma Pi was no different. I worried that I may not be easily accepted for many different reasons. Concerned that I am not a traditional student and am different in the way I dress, speak, and carry myself, it would be harder for me to feel welcomed. I was wrong! Deltasigs embraced me, inspired me, and gave me the support I needed to develop as a leader. It wasn’t a part of a structured program, or an agenda that had been organized formally. It was Deltasigs doing what Deltasigs do best.
Now it is my turn to pass the torch and give future Deltasigs what was given to me. Future generations of Deltasigs must have access to the same things that enabled me to grow and develop. My position is just one of many sources that it can come through. Brotherhood is the real secret ingredient to making it all work. It is my hope that I have done my part but would like to encourage anyone reading to make sure that they do theirs! I have said it many times before and will say it many times in the future: We are the next generation of the business leaders in the world and we must continue to invest in ourselves and others around us.
